Ramble on the Internet

My love is like a red red rose

I like poetry but sadly had little time to sip every single bit in a beautiful poem recently. A tasty poem sets my spirit free in a widely field yard to encounter every single unexpected bit of delight; a chewable poem lets my spirit out in a jungle to explore the beauty of our nature. I simply appreciate those masterpieces left by great poet.

About drivers – Lenovo

The original Vista was tragically attacked while I was on holiday away, I have to rip it out and install XP Pro SP2 instead. Here came problems with drivers after a successful clean install.

PCI memory controller driver lenovo
In Device Manager, if you still get a Yellow Exclamation in front of PCI memory controller, you will need to get this driver (x61s for example) to get rid of this annoying yellowish stuff and make it reserved for future use. Note: Microsoft Windows XP/2000 operating systems do not support Intel Turbo Memory.

Fn + F7
After you installed hotkey driver, if your Fn + F7 combination still takes no action, you need to install Display driver

PCI serial port diver

In order to get rid of that yellow exclamation again, install Local Manageability Service and Serial Over LAN (Intel AMT 2.6) driver for Windows Vista, XP

For the biometric processor you’re going to have to download and install Fingerprint Software

For the unknown hardware I think Atmel TPM (Trusted Platform Module) device driver would help:

Fn + F4
Control Panel -> Power Option -> Advanced -> Set the power buttons: “When I press the sleep button on my computer” choose stand by from the drop down list

How to find your firefox bookmarks if Vista failed

Vista collapsed and was no longer accessible. I got the hard disk out (lost 5 screws)and connected to a XP machine through USB. Trying to find our my Firefox bookmarks. I thought it was in Documents and Setting and attempted to copy bookmarks out of it, but this hidden folder said access denied. All right, no permission. Right clicked on it, but no security tab was found. After attempting to go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View-> upticked the last option “use simple file sharing”, security tab was still missing. After changed the value in gpedit.msc, there was still no luck. However, luckily realised that the security tab appeared on the menu of non-hidden folders. Hidden folders seemed to have a special setting with regard to this. So went back to the upper lever folder or driver and got to the security tab -> clicked on advanced, and went to Owner tab. Changed the owner (takes a while) and then updated the permission to the current owner of XP (takes a while again).

Went back to Documents and Setting folder – double clicked on the folder – shocking…Documents and Settings refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location. The message tried to tell me this folder is a short-cut? Shocking for 5 seconds and almost faint.

Finally realised that it’s the wrong place anyway for the bookmarks. It should be driver:\Users\[username]\AppData\RoaminĀg\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default\bookmarks.html. Please note it’s in AppData, not Application Data, which is a short-cut as well. I have to blame the bad coding habits of the programmer~ xixi

ReUnion & April fools day

I think I have not been serious in most of occasions, so not so many friends believe that I will go back to Beijing on April 1st. Some did, but at the last minute. One friend blamed me that I played April fools game and missed the lunch on purpose on April 1st (I was still in the airplane). I meant lunch on April 2nd. Don’t know whether I made the mistake in email or not, this turned out to be the best April fools trick. An old friend who shared the same desk with me in high school was on business in Beijing and we finally managed to meet after 7 or 8 years. Obviously, we have all grown up and had a good conversation in terms of the meaning of life. Another old friend in middle school has always been so nice to me, and takes day off every single time I went back to Beijing. Amazing and I really appreciate this friendship. We managed to have a simple meal in the University cafeteria, which was 2 minutes from our dormitory. I really wanted to use toilet in the middle and was asked to go back to the dorm – blushing in the dark. Although I gradated 5 years ago, at that moment, I felt every single memory was so close. Physically it was only 2 minutes away – started daydreaming…We were all heading onto the different direction to our future, and very looking forward to the next reunion.

The next day, I had a trip between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 three times and almost missed my flight. This was a bad sign. My luggage was then delayed when I arrived and I smelled for the whole night. Met D as planned at the airport but met M very unexpectedly at the airport at the same time! I think this was where my past handed over to my future – a very comedic but perfect turning point.
