My friend’s T40 always goes blank after working for a while, especially after being moved. When it is restarted, the numbock and capslock indicators don’t blink. The fan works hard but nothing shows up on the screen. Usually after 10 minutes, the computer can boot up again. What’s wrong with it?
My friend first found the problem caused by the USB device. He emailed me that the screen flickered and went blank if the USB mouse or hard disk was on.
The solution I gave to him is: There might be several problems behind it. How long have you used your laptop? Have you tried all your USB devices to confirm the conflict is the real problem? If your laptop is relative new and you are certain it’s the USB devices which cause the problem. I reckon the problem might be caused by the crashed USB device driver. You need to use your original driver CD with your laptop (if you cannot find it, you can download them from the Internet). Right click on My computer and choose Manage. There will be a window pop up. Find the Device Manager on the left hand side menu, and double click on it. There will be a list shown on the right hand side. Find “Universal Series Bus controllers”, which usually lies at the bottom of the list. Right click on it and choose update drivers to update your driver.
He told me his computer went alright after he updated the drivers, but it didn’t last long (two days). So we sit down together and took off the hard disk and plugged it to my computer as a USB hard disk. We ran Norton hard disk doctor, but no error was found. We formatted the hard disk and put it back again. We tried to use the Access IBM to install Windows on this clean hard disk, but the screen went blank after 10 minutes. We had to put his hard disk into my X31 machine and installed windows on my machine. It went very well. This probably means that there was no problem with hard disk I/O. So far we didn’t get anywhere. I assume it’s because of overheating CPU and I have no idea about it. By the way, I had a search online. Some says that there is a known fault on the video card with T40. If the computer is picked up by the left front corner, the unit locks up. This results in a blank screen. If you have warranty remaining, sent it back for a new motherboard. If not, you had better back up your data.
Information flooded and this newly wetland came. How can we manage to survive? I thought I could get some ideas if I could visit the real wetland. “This is a lie” snapped by another me. The writing actually came after I visited Levels and Moors, which lies beautifully in the southwest of England. The metaphor jumped out right before my writing started. “Are we really in the wetland?” I am asking myself. Obviously, this question is too big to answer, excused by myself. Put it in this way, have we gradually moved into wetland? Or where we lived has changed into wetland over time without notice. In this case, are we happy about it or shall we move to somewhere else. I have no idea about this asking in my mind.
The only thing I know is that as individuals we choose our own life styles. Also we decide whether we want to adapt to our current situations, instead of complaining whether we can get used to it. As being such a flexible professional spices, we wouldn’t worry about whether we have been left out. Information came in all sorts of channels and I just tried to remind myself not be blinded by the popular blinking road sign – Internet only. That’s what I learned from Summerset.
“Blenheim Palace: The Untold Story” is now open on the first floor. I did not know this until I finished the tour today. I was overwhelmed when I did my group. I did not think it went very well. My only excuse is that I did not feel well today. One of them saw that some people went upstairs, while I took no notice. When he asked me whether they can go upstairs, I told them that it is not open to the visitors. What a blunder I made. Very sorry about that, but I really did not know that they opened the first floor today. I did see a lady dressed in an old fashion, but I did not have that imagination about all these I saw in “The Untold Story” section. I have to say what they have there is amazing – interactive and appealing.
